November here already!  The arrival of the geese is quite spectacular - up to 30,000 in Aberlady Bay of an evening; many arrived as if in squadrons on Battle of Britain Sunday.  The autumn and winter are quite spectacular in East Lothian with low light levels accentuating the russet colours, the arrival of the winter birds, waders and game allow for great watching and eating.  Ben our forager has a great time in the woods; I’m not sure what he gets up to but he finds some great things to eat.  The winter is hard on Duck’s as the tide rolls out fast which is great for you because we do some great deals like Christmas in Donald’s for £13.50 and our Dine & Stay package in Duck’s; a room for two for £60 if you eat in Duck’s.

For the winter we have moved Duck’s into the Green Room beside the fire which is very cosy and being well received and Donald’s Bistro seems to have been a very big hit.  I feel the food in Duck’s is as good as it was in Edinburgh; it’s been a hard slog but worth it, thanks for your support.  The reviews on Trip Advisor speak volumes http://bit.ly/dzjmkd

Funny November for me: I am about to hit an age milestone, it’s just been remembrance weekend (for those that don’t know I was a Royal Marine Officer for 11 yrs Falklands, N Ireland etc) and our chef, Jonny Dunbar’s 5 year old son Archie was tragically killed a few months ago in Gullane. It all makes me think and puts life in perspective in hard economic times.  It reminds me that if you are privileged to wake up you have a duty to enjoy the day and laugh at least once!

Hogmanay New Year

Some places left for the Hogmanay ceilidh £60. Dance into 2011 with local favourites Seton Shoals Band.

We will be open 1st and 2nd with live music.
Walk on the beach or a whack at a ball, then come, relax and get warm.

Birds

	£50 room for two – mid week bird watcher rate (bacon roll coffee breakfast) - when eating in Duck’s or Donald’s. We now have a sightings board for you to update when you visit.   Rewards for rare sightings - a sober Duck doesn’t count!

The Urban Birder David Lindow is visiting us the first weekend of December and I have joined Lothian Bird News chat site so will tweet what has been seen in the area on a regular basis.

I hope to organise some dinners with artists such as Darren Woodhead and John Busby in due course.  Keep watching the website for details.

Golf

Great news that Renaissance will almost certainly host the Scottish Open this year or next and fantastic news for East Lothian.

This summer we will also introducing a dinner bed and breakfast rate:

            £140 for two eating in Donald’s
            £160 for two eating in Duck’s

£50 room for two – mid week golfer rate (bacon roll, coffee breakfast) – when eating in Duck’s or Donald’s. We can get some great deals from the golf courses through to the end of March.

Tip of the year:  really bend your knees (almost squat), grip the shaft down the club at the bottom of the grip, open the face, grip lightly, hit the sand an inch behind the ball and take a full swing.

Highlight of the year: walking Carnoustie with Tom Watson and Marc Carnavale on the Monday practice of the Seniors Open.
